There are two Editors and two Sub-Editors of the Queensland Reports. They are practising barristers in Queensland, who provide their assistance on a largely voluntary basis:
Roger Derrington QC (Senior Editor) – Barrister
Roger Derrington QC is a graduate of the University of Queensland and was called to the Bar in 1986. He was the first Queensland recipient of the Sir Robert Menzies Scholarship in Law and read law at Worcester College Oxford from 1987 to 1989. He was an associate to the Hon Sir Gerard Brennan in 1990. He commenced practice at the Bar in 1991 and took Silk in 2004. He has been an Editor of the Queensland Reports since 2008. He is an adjunct professor of the TC Beirne School of Law at the University of Queensland, a member of the Editorial Board of the Australian Bar Review, a member of the Commercial Litigation Specialist Accreditation Committee of the Queensland Law Society, a co-convenor of the Commercial Law sub-committee of the Bar Association and a member of the Professional Conduct Committee of the Bar Association.
Dr Sarah Derrington (Editor) – Barrister
Sarah Derrington is a graduate of the University of Queensland (BA, LLB (Hons), LLM and PhD) and was admitted to the Bar in 1990. An Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland, she was formerly Professor of Admiralty Law and Director of the Marine and Shipping Law Unit within the T C Beirne School of Law. She has published in leading international journals in the field of marine insurance and carriage of goods by sea and, with James M Turner of the English Bar, co-authored The Law & Practice of Admiralty Matters (OUP, 2007). Dr Derrington is a Director of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), the Australian Maritime College (AMC), Vice-Chairman of the Australian Maritime & Transport Arbitration Commission (AMTAC), a member of the Commonwealth’s Admiralty Rules Committee, and the Immediate Past President of the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand.
Mark Evans (Sub-Editor) – Barrister
Mark Evans is a graduate of the Queensland University of Technology (LLB Hons 1st class). Mr Evans commenced practice as a barrister in 1994, and in August 2012 was appointed a part-time member of the Land Court and part-time Deputy Chairperson of the Land Tribunal under the Aboriginal Land Act 1991. He has served as a Reporter since 1994 and from 2000 has been a Sub-editor.
Justin Carter (Sub-Editor) – Barrister
Justin Carter holds a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and University Medal from Griffith University. Mr Carter commenced practice as a barrister in 2010. He serves as a Sub-Editor of the Queensland Reports. He also regularly contributes to other leading legal publications. Prior to commencing practice, Mr Carter served as associate to Justice Patrick Keane (then of the Queensland Court of Appeal), and Justices Graham Bell and James Barry of the Family Court of Australia.
